    “Sports is a great leveller where everyone is judged on nothing, but performances. Exceptional performances could be achieved only through dedication, commitment and rigorous hard training. Sports in that direction is a joy which in turn brings, great qualities into your life,” so said Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army, delivering the keynote address as the Chief Guest at the ‘Colours Awarding Ceremony-2013’ at University of Moratuwa on Friday (21) evening.  
  • Commander Delivers Opening Address at OCDC Seminar


    The bi-annual Seminar of the Officer Career Development Centre (OCDC) at Buttala, themed on “Evolution of war fighting and Adaptability of Armed Forces” was held at OCDC Auditorium on Monday (17) morning. Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest at the inauguration of the seminar session was welcomed by Brigadier A.W.M.P.R. Seneviratne, Commandant, OCDC. 
  • Military Police to Apprehend Producers of Ridiculous Video Documentary


    Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP), investigating into the release of a video documentary on rigorous military training sessions for woman recruits to the Internet by a few interested elements, have now found that the highly likely stage-managed training in question, has been devised by a group of persons around October in 2012 with the express intention of bringing the Army into disrepute and condemnation.

  • Army to Collaborate with Private Sector for Cultivation of Commercial Crops


    Sri Lanka Army in order to develop lands, belonging to it further, entered into an agreement with Browns Global Farm (Pvt) Ltd for lease of 400 hectare for exclusive environment-friendly cultivation purposes in Kandakadu, off Welikanda in the dry zone. Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army on behalf of the Army and Mr I.C Nanayakkara, Chairman, Browns Company Ltd, signed the cultivation Agreement on Friday (21) at Army Headquarters.    
  • Army Initiates Donation of Artificial Limbs to Disable Civilians


    Troops of the 59 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), launching a humanitarian project of the greatest significance, took steps to get 54 artificial limbs for civilians, resident in Mullaittivu district, free of charge. The programme, funded by Rotary Club of Capital City-Colombo at the request of the Army serving the area, distributed those artificial limbs among 51 leg and 3 arm amputees who became disable due to war and other reasons.
  • New Entrance at SLAVF HQ Unveiled


    The new main archway entrance of the Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) Headquarters at Kosgama was unveiled by Major General S. A. P. P. Samarasinghe, Commandant, SLAVF as the Chief Guest during a ceremony on Friday (14). The Chief Guest was warmly welcomed by Major General W.D.L.P. Wickremasinghe, Deputy Commandant, SLAVF and Brigadier W.A.N.M. Weerasinghe, Principal Staff Officer.
  • 'Rana Sura Padakkama' (RSP) Awarded to 230 More VIR War Heroes


    Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), one of the most prestigious infantry units of the Army, honoured one more segment of 230 War Heroes by awarding ‘Rana Sura Padakkama’ (RSP) gallantry medals during a ceremony at VIR’s ‘Salute Reception’ hall at VIR Regimental Headquarters, Boyagane on Friday (21).
