Troops of the 59 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), launching a humanitarian project of the greatest significance, took steps to get 54 artificial limbs for civilians, resident in Mullaittivu district, free of charge.
The programme, funded by Rotary Club of Capital City-Colombo at the request of the Army serving the area, distributed those artificial limbs among 51 leg and 3 arm amputees who became disable due to war and other reasons.
The brief ceremony, attended by Major General A.S De Z Wickramarathne, General Officer Commanding, 59 Division on behalf of the SFHQ-MLT Commander, Major General Jagath Dias, took part in the distribution ceremony on Saturday (22).
Mr N. Vedanayagam, District Secretary for Mullaittivu, Mr T Raviharan, Member of Northern Provincial Council, Mr Anton Jagenaden, Chairperson, Colombo Capital City Rotary Club, visiting Members of Malaysian Rotary Club, representatives from Federation of Malaysia and Sri Lankan Association in Malaysia, relatives of the recipients and villagers attended the event.
