  • Kebithigollewa Students Gifted with Sleeping Accessories


    1000 selected students in the Vavuniya education sector under the Kebithigollewa zone received sleeping accessories and mattresses, worth about Rs 4000/= one share as gifts, thanks to the patronage extended by the Kelaniya Rotary Club and a group of Canadian donors. Distribution of these gift slots took place at Poonewa Navodya Vidyalaya and Ethakada Maha Vidyalaya during two days.
  • Army Amateur Boxers Claim Victory in Four Weight Categories


    Sri Lanka Army Amateur Boxing Association organized Intermediate Amateur Boxing Tournament recently got underway at Colombo Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. Amateur boxers from the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Mass Holdings and a few more boxing teams in the private sector vied in the tournament which had ten men’s categories and ten women’s categories.

  • Friendship of Japan-Sri Lanka Friendship Assn. with the Army Renewed Once Again


    The Japan - Sri Lanka Friendship Association (JSFA), endorsing its wholehearted support to the Sri Lanka Army once again, donated an ambulance and a fire engine during a brief ceremony at Army Headquarters on Monday (23).   • Selected Children & Civilians Gifted with Garments & Cash


    98 children of low income groups and down-trodden civilians, resident in Periyakulam village received financial grants and stocks of clothes as donations from a group of Singaporeans, including Ven. Gunarathana Thero of Singapore. The donation, coordinated by 56 Division on the directions of Brigadier N.A.P.C Napagoda, General Officer Commanding, 56 Division, took place Thursday (19) in the presence of Ven. Gunarathana Thero and a few donors from Singapore.
  • Army Constructed Deegavapiya Bodhi Perimeter Wall Opened


    Lavish financial grants offered by all ranks of the Task Force-3, 631 Brigade and 28 Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) serving Ampara area constructed a new Bodhiya perimeter wall plus a golden fence at historic Deegawapiya Raja Maha Viharaya. The artistically done wall was declared open by Most Ven. Udugama Sri Buddharakkithabidhana Maha Nayaka Thero of Asgiri Chapter on Wednesday (18) during a ceremony.
  • Troops Pocket Out to Build New House to Helpless Mother


    Members of the 511 Brigade troops serving Atchelu area in the Jaffna peninsula rose to the occasion and came forward to build a new house for a family with two children after their plight was brought to the notice of the 511 Brigade. Every day the new house recipient, Mrs P. Sivapalan (32) earns her bread and butter doing labour work, away from her thatched hut where she lives with her two children....

  • Students of 3 Schools Attend 55 Division Coordinated A/L Seminar


    Jaffna-based 55 Division Headquarters with the objective of raising standards of knowledge and preparing the students well for the forthcoming G. C. E. (A/L) examination 2012, organized a full day educational seminar on Logic and Geography at Palai Madya Maha Vidyalaya on Saturday (21). Coordinated and directed by the Zonal Education Office in Jaffna, the seminar was attended by about 55 students from Palai Madya Maha Vidyalaya, Uduththurai Madya Maha Vidyalaya and Ampan Maha Vidyalaya in the 521 Brigade area.

    The maiden sanatorium-type wellness resort, ‘Abimansala’ for dependent War Heroes, which saw its birth on the banks of Nuwara Wewa at Anuradhapura as a conceptual notion of the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, marks its first anniversary on Thursday (26).
