Outgoing US Ambassador Bids Farewell to Commander

Sri Lanka’s outgoing US Ambassador Ms Patricia A. Butenis Tuesday (24) morning paid a courtesy call on the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya at Army Headquarters.

Ms Patricia A. Butenis, who took office as the US envoy to Sri Lanka in August 2009 completes her tenure of office in Sri Lanka shortly. During her meeting with the Commander of the Army, she recalled pleasant memories and instances where different US agencies closely cooperated with the Army for implementation of US humanitarian assignments during her stay in Sri Lanka.

Lieutenant General Jayasuriya wished her well and thanked her for various gestures of goodwill shown towards the Army.

Before she bade farewell to the Army Commander, she formally signed in the visitors’ book at the Commander’s office. The acting US Deffence Attaché in the embassy accompanied her to the Commander’s office.

Ms Patricia A. Butenis with her broad experience in the South Asian region before her three-year assignment in Sri Lanka has served as ambassador to Bangladesh, Baghdad, Islamabad, Karachi, New Delhi and a few other destinations.
