  • Military Academy Groomed 140 More Cadet Officers Pass Out in Grand Ceremony

     
    The Army’s premier seat of learning, Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) at Diyatalawa highlands honoured the Mother Lanka once again on Monday (2) by producing 140 more full-pledged Cadet Officers to the Sri Lanka Army. A total of 140 Cadet Officers, from Intakes 73, 75, and Intake (voluntary) 51, including two Lady Cadet Officers from Intake 10A during their Passing Out Parade (PoP) Monday (2) morning, received the Sword of Honour, symbolic of their Commissioning from the day’s Chief Guest, Mr Lalith Weeratunge.....
     
     
     
  • Rifle Corps Headquarters Welcomes the First Visit of an Army Chief to Its Premises

     The Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC), origins of which date back to the colonial era when British planters in the central highlands of then Ceylon formed the Ceylon Rifle Corps in 1887 as a volunteer (reserve) regiment, turned a new lease of life on Saturday (30) when its Kandy Headquarters for the first time of its history received a Commander of the Army as a Chief Guest.

  • Sanitary-ware & Sewing Machine Distributed Among Low-income Group Families

    A distribution of sanitary-ware, pipes, cement and other accessories among low-income group families in Birindawasam village in the Tharapuram Gramaseva Division took place recently following patronage, extended by Colombo based ‘Gama Pubuduwa’ organization. Thirteen lavatory sets, fifty-six cement bags, iron rods, binding wire, PVC pipes, sewing machines, etc were among the items that were shared among fifteen poor families in this village.
  • SFHQ-W To Build A New Home For Year 6 Student At Poonewa Vidyalaya

    Security Forces Headquarters, Wanni (SFHQ-W), considering the miserable plight of a bright female student in Year 6 of Poonewa Vidyalaya took steps to construct a new house for her. Considering the pathetic situation, associated with her family, Engineers Regiment has volunteered to build it on behalf of the SFHQ-W.
  • Army Conducts Taekwondo Training Workshop for Mullaittivu Sportsmen

    Troops of the 59 Division with the aim of popularizing Taekwondo sport among sportsmen and women in Mullaittivu area recently organized a full-day workshop at Security Forces Headquarters, Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT) auditorium. Several Taekwondo trainers at national level and trainers in the Army participated in the training workshop.
  • Spectacles Distributed Among Civilians


    With the coordination of the Army, Wellawatte Cosmopolitan Lion Club came forward to give 271 pairs of spectacles free of charge for the use of villagers in Vavuniya, Madukanda and Ulukkulama areas. Organized by 211 Brigade Headquarters, distribution of those spectacles took place at Madukanda Dalada Temple and Ulukkulama Sri Sumanaramaya during two days (June 24-25) in separate ceremonies.
     
  • National Cricketers Attend Award Ceremony for Jaffna Cricketers


    Jaffna Premier League 2012 (JPL 2012) that mobilized all peninsula-based sports clubs to Jaffna Hindu College  ground for three-weekend long Cricket Tournament  concluded on June (23) at Jaffna Hindu College ground. The closing ceremony and award ceremony for winners took place at the Jaffna Hindu College premises with attendance of distinguished guests and national cricket stars.
