Military Academy Groomed 140 More Cadet Officers Pass Out in Grand Ceremony
The Army’s premier seat of learning, Sri Lanka Military Academy (SLMA) at Diyatalawa highlands honoured the Mother Lanka once again on Monday (2) by producing 140 more full-pledged Cadet Officers to the Sri Lanka Army. The Sri Lanka Rifle Corps (SLRC), origins of which date back to the colonial era when British planters in the central highlands of then Ceylon formed the Ceylon Rifle Corps in 1887 as a volunteer (reserve) regiment, turned a new lease of life on Saturday (30) when its Kandy Headquarters for the first time of its history received a Commander of the Army as a Chief Guest.
A distribution of sanitary-ware, pipes, cement and other accessories among low-income group families in Birindawasam village in the Tharapuram Gramaseva Division took place recently following patronage, extended by Colombo based ‘Gama Pubuduwa’ organization.
