  • Matara Vesak Zone Organizers Invite Commander for Opening

     
    The annual Vesak zone at Matara Sanath Jayasuriya public play ground was opened Wednesday (9) evening for the 5th consecutive day, amidst religious rites and rituals. At the invitation of the organizers, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army attended the ceremonial opening of the Vesak zone, accompanied by a few more distinguished guests. South-based Army troops contributed largely to the preparations of Vesak lanterns now on display at the Matara at ‘Nilwala Vesak zone’.

    A string of decorative Vesak lanterns, organized by 11 Division Headquarters in Kandy, Kundasale illuminated William Gopallawa main road from Getambe Junction up to Kandy Railway Station Junction during May 5-6.     A series of Vesak commemorative ceremonies organized under the auspices of the Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-W) attracted hundreds of Wanni civilians during the Vesak week (May 1-7). To begin with, the SFHQ-W distributed more than 20 first aid boxes among pre-schools / schools under 211 Brigade Headquarters areas, together with a stock of medicine to each box.

    Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army Thursday (10) morning made a surprise visit to the ‘Abimansala’ (wellness resort for totally dependent War Heroes) construction site at Wilpitawatta, Kamburupitiya, now fast receiving finishing touches. Major General S.R Manawaduge, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - South (SFHQ-S) received the visiting Commander on arrival at the venue.
