    Three separate auspicious timings for three phases of the inaugural ground-breaking and foundation-stone laying ceremony of the Army’s second wellness resort, ‘Abimansala’ for dependent War Heroes, kicked off the project’s formal launch at the southern village of Wilpitawatta, Udumulla Thursday (19) morning, amidst religious blessings and heartening gestures of goodwill and thoughtfulness. The proposed state of the art complex for lifetime rest and relaxation of 48 more South-based dependent.....

  • 58 Division Marks Its 3rd Anniversary


    Sri Lanka Army’s 58 Division Headquarters which boasts of a prestigious record of history, particularly at the height of successful completion of the Humanitarian Operations, marked its 3rd Anniversary recently with a few events, organized at the Headquarters. Kilinochchi-based 58 Division was formally raised on 3rd January 2009 as a separate Division as the war was entering a decisive phase.....
  • Next UN Contingent Ready for Departure

    The 15th UN contingent, expected to leave for Haiti shortly on UN Peace Keeping Missions, had their passing out parade at Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) Training School at Puttalam. Major General R.V Samarathunga Colonel of the Regiment received the salute as the Chief Guest on the occasion. The 15th contingent is comprised of 49 officers and 601 soldiers. Of them, 29 officers and 419 other ranks are from the VIR.

  • Kovil Offerings Commence After 58 Div Hqrs Relocates its Perimeters


    To coincide with the recent Thai Pongal ceremony and also considering the religious needs of the people in the area, the entire ancient Kandaswamy Kovil premises, situated inside the 58 Division Headquarters compound was recently released for veneration and access of the devotees after relocating the perimeters of the Headquarters. Kurakkal Ven Rasneshwaran, in charge of the Kandaswamy Kovil received the formal custodianship....

    The brave men and women of armed forces and the Police who had sacrificed their noble lives to save the motherland from the ruthless terrorism in the past 30 years were commemorated and honoured  by awarding "Uttama Pooja" medal to beloved parents and wives. Secretary to the Ministry of Defence and Urban Development Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa participating as the chief guest in the felicitation ceremony honoured the next of kin of those who made the supreme sacrifice by awarding "Uttama Pooja" medal today (20 Jan). Ministry of Defence and Ranaviru Seva Authority jointly organized the felicitation ceremony held at 1st Special Force HQ Naula, Matale.....
     
  • Army Opens Its Newest Academy, OCDC Exclusively On Warfare & Defence Management Studies

     
    By establishing yet another academic seat of excellence for career development, themed purely on Defence Management Studies and Art and Science of Warfare, the Sri Lanka Army on Monday (23) added one more glorious chapter to its annals when Mr Lalith Weerathunge, Secretary to the President, unveiled a plaque and ceremonially opened its newest Officers’ Career Development Centre (OCDC) at Buttala, the island’s only state-of-the-art faculty for warfare and defence management studies. Its concept, mooted by the incumbent Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya was realized consequent upon the ever-increasing interest and the need for a forum of this relevance at both local and international levels. The Army in 2011 was requested to take charge of a section of permanent structures, belonging to the UGC at Buttala 'Deyata Kirula' National Exhibition premises by the government in the aftermath of the event, following a directive of the President Mahinda Rajapaksa who confided in the Army’s ability of converting it to be a productive institute......
