  • Army Christmas Carols Get Underway at St. Joseph's College

    As the season of sharing and caring with compliments set in with the forthcoming Christmas and the dawn of a New Year, the Sri Lanka Army contributed its share to the phenomenon by holding a Christmas Carols service at St. Joseph’s College Chapel Wednesday (21) evening. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army and Mrs Manjulika Jayasuriya, President, Seva Vanitha Army Branch graced the evening as distinguished guests at the invitation of the Army Christian Fellowship.

  • 'Uttama Pooja Tribute' Medals Awarded to Rana Viru families


    A felicitation ceremony to parents and families of war heroes was held Thursday (Dec 22) at the Nuwara Eliya Town Hall. The program jointly organized by the Ministry of Defence and Ranaviru Seva Authority was held under the patronage of Secretary Defence Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa this morning (22). The ceremony was organized to award medals to parents, wives and next of kin of military personnel in the Nuwara Eliya District who scarified their lives for the sake of permanent peace in the island-nation. The 'Uttama Pooja' project, brainchild of Secretary Defence was initiated as a tribute to the countless sacrifices made by those families of Sri Lanka's bravest men and women. "Time and again medals and decorations have been awarded to valiant men and women of the Security forces and the Police. In addition, we understand that it is our bounden duty to pay tribute to the equally important contribution made over three decades by parents, wives and children of such brave individuals", said Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa delivering the guest speech at the event.

    Sri Lanka Army rising to the occasion swiftly jumped into action across the country where heavy rains are causing destruction and havoc including the North and East. Hundreds of troops with their all-time preparedness under the directions of the Commander of the Army and respective field commanders are currently engaged in immediate repair and relief work in Mannar, Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Iranamadu ....

  • Jaffna's 52 Division Completes Five More New Houses, Sponsored by -œSri Lanka Habitat-

    Five more permanent houses constructed by the Army with financial assistance of the “Sri Lanka Habitat” were symbolically handed over to five needy families in the 52 Division under Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna (SFHQ-J) earlier this week. Those recipients with low income were selected from Thenmarachchi area and constructions were carried out by 52 Division troops within three months.

  • MoD's "Api Wenuwen Api" Housing Project's Seventh Phase Builds 29 New War Hero Houses

    The seventh phase of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), initiated district-wise War Hero Housing project under "Api Wenuwen Api" Fund saw its inauguration at Kalutara on Saturday (24) under the aegis of HE, the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces where keys for 29 new houses were delivered to next of kin of fallen War Heroes and a section of disable War Heroes, resident both in Kalutara and Galle districts.
