  • Army Troops Turn Fire Fighters to Control Bush Fires


    More than 200 troops are engaged in extinguishing bush fires that erupt intermittently in Habarana forest reserve these days due to prolonged drought after the first fire was reported from Habarana near the 121 km post on July (24).  Troops of the 222 Brigade, including officers rushed to Sungavila, Somawathiya, Habarana, Girithale, Weeramandiya, Medirigiriya, Serunuwara and a few other places where outbreaks of fire were reported and immediately....

  • Army Troops Assist Medical Services in Hospitals


    Members of the Army serving the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) at the request of hospital authorities at Kandy General Hospital, Peradeniya Teaching Hospital, Nuwara Eliya Base Hospital and Debarawewa Hospital volunteered and provided skeletal medical services when minor staff in those hospitals struck work on Wednesday (30).
  • Touring Undergraduates Facilitated


    A team of 125 undergraduates of the University of Peradeniya came to Mullaittivu area on a tour received Army support and facilitation on Monday (28). Under the coordination of 64 and 68 Division Headquarters, those touring undergraduates visited sacred temples, captured arms and ammunition, submarine stations of LTTE terrorists, Mullaittivu War Hero memorial and other places of interest.
  • Programmes Organized to Mark World Nature Conservation Day


    With the support of civilians and different organizations, the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) launched many eco-friendly environmental projects to coincide with the World Nature Conservation Day on July 28. Members of the Army cleaned up beach areas and land removing plastic and polythene pollutants, together with members of the public and conducted tree planting drives across the peninsula.
  • Cricket Knows No Ethnicities in Kalmunai & Ampara


    Intended to further promote understanding among communities of different ethnicities, the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) organized a cricket tournament at Addalchenai Public Stadium on Tuesday (29).
  • Civil Staff in the Army Play Cricket


    A friendly cricket tournament, organized by the Sports Committee of the Army Directorate of Civil Administration, got underway on Tuesday (29) at Kolonnawa Municipal playground in the presence of a large gathering. Three teams Super Elevens, Royal Challengers and Red Bulls of the Directorate of Civil Administration vied in the tournament, pushing Red Bulls and Royal Challengers to be final contenders.

  • Swimming Event in Army Para Games - 2014 Brings Win to GR Swimmers


    The swimming event in the forthcoming Army Para Games - 2014, held at Panagoda Swimming Pool Complex on Wednesday (30) made Gajaba Regiment (GR) competitors to claim the championship in the tournament. Categorized on the percentage of the disability, these competitors vied in the 50 m & 100 m free style and 4 x 50 m swimming. GR swimmers scored 146 marks against 137 marks, recorded by Gemunu Watch (GW) swimmers who were adjudged the runners-up.
