Army Troops Turn Fire Fighters to Control Bush Fires

More than 200 troops are engaged in extinguishing bush fires that erupt intermittently in Habarana forest reserve these days due to prolonged drought after the first fire was reported from Habarana near the 121 km post on July (24).

Troops of the 222 Brigade, including officers rushed to Sungavila, Somawathiya, Habarana, Girithale, Weeramandiya, Medirigiriya, Serunuwara and a few other places where outbreaks of fire were reported and immediately brought the situation under control with the help of some civilians in the area.

Photos show how those troops conducted such fire control work in Habarana and other areas.
