  • 'Paritta' Chanting Invokes Blessings on Mihindu Seth Medura Anniversary

     
     
    The state-of-the-art centre for solace for differently able War Heroes of our times, ‘Mihindu Seth Medura’ at Attidiya which saw its birth as the brainchild of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary to Ministry of Defence and Urban Development, marked its third anniversary in a fitting ceremony.  The commemorative arrangements includes a Pirith chanting ceremony, alms-giving, musical programme with inmates and a fellow-lunch treat, scheduled during June 6 - 8 at the premises.

  • Over 18,000 Acres Released to Jaffna Civilians


    The Sri Lanka Army released over 18,000 acres of lands in the Jaffna district since 2009 to the people with the dawn of permanent peace, Army Media Spokesman Brigadier Ruwan Wanigasooriya said. He was addressing the media at the Media Centre of the Defence and the Urban Development Ministry. "During the humanitarian operation, the Army had taken over these lands mainly for setting up Army camps. However, after liberating the country from the clutches of the LTTE, the Army had been gradually releasing these lands, on which Army camps were setup," he said.
  • Rehab Almost Done - BCGR


    There are a mere 132 former members of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) currently undergoing rehabilitation, out of 12,000 former LTTE cadres who underwent rehabilitation, officials at the Bureau of the Commissioner General of Rehabilitation (BCGR) said.     More than 600 soldiers of the Security Force Headquarters - West (SFHQ-West) at the request of health authorities and respective local administrators have thrown their full weight behind eradication of Dengue and provision of relief to flood victims on the directions of the Commander of the Army. About 250 soldiers on Sunday (8) joined hands together with local government officials and Grama Seva divisions in Biyagama and actively took part in a massive garbage cleaning programme...........
  • 'Mihindu Seth Medura' Anniversary Programmes End with Family Get-Together



    Ministry of Defence-founded Mihindu Seth Medura (wellness resort) for dependant War Heroes at Attidiya on Sunday (8) took form of a lively hubbub of interactive family get-together plus the commemoration of its 3rd anniversary. Mihindu Seth Medura, the brainchild of Mr Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Secretary Defence & Urban Development was founded at Attidiya three years ago in order to accommodate about 50-52 dependant War Heroes who need 24 hour vigil for the rest of their lives due to the serious nature of disability or injury. Its maintenance is managed by the Army.

    Conferment of ‘Rana Sura Padakkama’ (RSP) Medals on one more segment of 557 War Heroes of Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI), got under way on Thursday (5) at the Youth Services Council auditorium, Maharagama with Major General W.D.L.P Wickremasinghe, Deputy Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) gracing as the Chief Guest.
