    HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces has approved the promotions of following Brigadiers to the rank of Major General.

    a.    Brigadier R. Ratnasingham, Quarter Master General (Sri Lanka Army Service Corps)
    b.    Brigadier D.R. Mayadunne RSP, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - East (Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers)
    c.    Brigadier T.N. Jayasuriya USP Hdmc, Director, Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers)

  • 'Ranaviru' Commemorative Month Commences with Its Flag Release at Temple Trees


    The annual ‘War Hero’ (Ranaviru) commemoration month, organized jointly by Ministry of Defence and Urban Development and Ranaviru Seva Authority commenced on Friday (2) after the first Ranaviru flag was pinned on HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces during a brief ceremony at Temple Trees.

  • 23 SLLI Conducts 'Shramadana' Campaign


    Troops serving 23 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) in the 591 Brigade of 59 Division under Security Force Headquarters-Mullaittivu (SFHQ-MLT), with the joint cooperation of Mullaittivu Trade Association and Private Bus Association, organized a ‘Shramadana’ campaign to clean the Mullaittivu town area recently.

    There are plenty of stories from and about war and conflict, but the one story that had the deepest impact is a rather simple one from World War II. Actually, it happened long after the world's biggest war came to an end. Once, a little boy asked a World War II veteran a seemingly simple question when they met a veterans' event: "How does it feel to be a war hero?" His reply, though simple, has a very deep meaning and reveals all you need to know about the harsh reality of the battlefield. "Son, I am just a survivor. We buried all the heroes."
  • Joint Operation Rescues Over 40 Tourists


    More than 40 local and foreign tourists who were trapped in the Minneriya National Park, due to the overflowing of the Kiri Oya reservoir were rescued by a joint operation carried out by the Army, Police and the jeep owners of the area. A spokesman for the Jeep Owners Association in Minneriya said the trapped persons were rescued by using ropes.

    The new Military Hospital in Narahenpita which will be opened by President Rajapaksa today is one of the largest hospitals in South Asia with all sophisticated medical equipment. It is certainly a great gift given to the tri-forces and Police by President Mahinda Rajapaksa, the government and the people of this country, said Army Commander Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake in an interview with the ‘Daily News’.

    The opening of the largest military hospital in Narahenpita by President Mahinda Rajapaksa today is undoubtedly a boon to thousands of military personnel who made many sacrifices for the sake of the country. A hospital of this sort was a long- felt need for the military personnel who became disabled in many missions aimed at wiping out terrorism which plagued the country for more than 3 decades.
