  • 'Cormorant Strike' in Full Swing

    A joint Army, Navy and Air Force exercise code-named ‘Cormorant Strike’ is being carried out in Silawatura, Mannar at present. Around 2,500 Security Forces personnel are taking part in the exercise. In addition 40 naval and aircraft including the Shakthi naval vessel, Kfir aircraft, MI 24 helicopters, Y12 and MI 17 participated in the Cormorant Strike.

  • 'War Criminal' -“ SL Refutes NY Post

    Sri Lanka's Permanent Mission to the United Nations has refuted allegations against Major General Shavendra Silva, the new Deputy Permanent Representative to UN by New York Post in an article titled 'War criminal gets a UN job'. In a letter to the Editor of the newspaper, Sri Lanka's Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Dr. Palitha Kohona stated that the report is 'not based on fact and is highly defamatory'. 'This piece is extremely unbalanced and does not portray Major General Shavendra Silva in the correct light'.

  • Commander Interacts with Disable War Heroes & Lauds their Sacrifices

    One more group of disable officers and other ranks in the Army were hosted to dinner by Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya Thursday (25) night to coincide with the 61st anniversary of the Army. The treat, considered a special token of appreciation for numerous sacrifices made by War Heroes at the expense their legs and limbs, is held in the past two years as an annual feature covering all formations across the country where the most number of disables are living.

  • Disable War Heroes Twice Honoured: 100 More Specially Devised Three-wheelers Distributed

    The unmatched service of the War Heroes who had sacrificed their legs and limbs for defence of the motherland fighting separatist terrorists were once again honoured and appreciated providing them with specially devised three-wheelers during a special ceremony organized jointly by the Ministry of Defence (MoD) and the Ranaviru Seva Authority (RSA) to mark HE the President’s assumption of office.

  • 'Thank You Army, I am Back to the Wild'

    A cub elk, fell victim to a mortar attack during the height of LTTE terrorism in Visuamadu, Kilinochchi, nearly two years ago, took leave of its Army caretakers recently and sought its new abode at Wilpattu with the Department of Wildlife Conservation. Troops belonging to 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) Regiment during the peak of the fighting against terrorists came across this cub elk with severe mortar fire injuries.....                                               
  • Kilinochchi Hospital Eye Clinic Re-established

    The newly re-established Eye Clinic at Kilinochchi District Hospital was opened to the public by Major General Chandana Rajaguru on the invitation of the Medical Superintendent. The reopening of this vital unit on Thursday (25) was made possible following donation of medical accessories, needed for the unit by the Director Sri Lanka Eye Foundation and the philanthropist, Mr Mohan Samarakoon of Kandy.

  • NORTHERN PUBLIC WARNED AGAINST IMPOSTERS & EXTORTIONISTS

    Members of the general public in Kilinochchi, Mullaittivu, Vavuniya and Jaffna districts are warned against certain manipulative moves, currently set in motion in above areas by an organized ring of swindlers, aimed at exploiting grievances or concerns of war-affected northern civilians, including parents who have not yet been able to trace whereabouts of their missing ones.

  • Secretary Defence Honours Parents & Families of Fallen War Heroes with "Uttama Pooja Pranama" Medal

    Over 3000 families of fallen war heroes of Army, Navy, Air Force and Police of Kandy district were honored with "Uttama Pooja Pranama" medal by Secretary Defence Mr. Gotabaya Rajapaksa today, (26 Nov). Ministry of Defence together with Ranaviru Seva Authority organized the felicitation ceremony in conjunction with the commemoration day of one of Sri Lanka's national heroes Weera Keppetipola; at 1st Rajarata Rifle Corps in Pllakale, Kandy.

  • President of Pakistan Given Rousing Welcome At Airport

    Pakistani President Asif Ali Zardari arrived in Sri Lanka at 4.00 pm today on a four day State visit on the invitation of HE the President Mahinda Rajapaksa. The visiting President of Pakistan was warmly welcomed by his Sri Lankan counterpart at the Colombo International Airport, where a special guard of honour was accorded to the visiting Head of the State. Senior Ministers, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Air Force Air Marshal Roshan Goonetileke, Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya....
