  • 'Captain Ali' Ordered Out

    THE SRI LANKA NAVY yesterday ordered the Syrian registered cargo vessel ‘MV Captain Ali’, seized last week, 160 km west of Colombo, to leave with a warning not to stray in to Sri Lankan waters.Navy Spokesman Commander Mahesh Karunaratne told ‘The Island’ that around 6.00 p.m the ship was escorted by the Navy to a distance of 100 nautical miles off Sri Lankan shores. The vessel had tried to enter Sri Lankan waters without following the proper procedures. It carried 884 metric tonnes of food and other material. The Navy confirmed there was no lethal cargo on it.

  • Lion Club Donated School Accessories Distributed Among Wanni Students

    School accessories and sports items, donated by Udahamulla Lions Club-306 C2 to the 61 Division Headquarters, Vellankulam under the Security Forces Headquarters-Wanni (SFHQ-W), were distributed among 201 students and 31 teachers on Tuesday (15) during a ceremony at 26 Sri Lanka Light Infantry camp at Periyamadu.     The closing ceremony of the 52nd Inter Regiment Athletics Championship of the Army and award of trophies to winners, took place at the Sugathadasa National Stadium Thursday (27) evening during a grand and wonderful ceremony.
