Courses in New Army School of Logistics in Full Swing

The recently-established Army School of Logistics (ASOL) in Trincomalee, on a concept proposed by Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army, is now going ahead with its training courses for Senior Non Commissioned Officers (SNCOs) after establishment of all facilities for the inmates.

Prospective soldiers to follow three more new training courses, Junior Officers Logistics Course (JOLC), Middle Grade Officers Logistics Course (MGOLC) and Logistics Staff Course (LSC) are now being processed by school authorities since the demand for such training courses was ever on the increase.

The ASOL with its new state of the art infrastructure facilities opened its new mess hall a few days ago during a brief ceremony and this mess hall is spacious enough to accommodate more than 400 trainees at one time.

Brigadier Mihindukulasuriya, Commandant, ASOL maintains that the new wing is capable of guiding those officers of junior, middle grade and senior for further excellence in professional work while inspiring them for progressive roles in the field of Logistics.

This is the Army’s first full-fledged School of Logistics, designed to groom officers with a sound competence and professionalism in the field of logistics.

It was declared opened by its architect, Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya on May 9, 2011, adding a new chapter for effective and efficient implementation of the Army’s logistic responsibilities.

The school unifies all other Army training programmes on logistics, being pursued hitherto at Panagoda Army Cantonment and elsewhere in different formations.

Logistic courses in the Army cover a wide range of general staff duties, roles and tasks, rules and conventions of communication both verbal and written, principles of administration, functions of logistics at regiment levels, log operations and several other areas of study.

Logistics, the management of the flow of goods between the point of origin and the point of destination, as an integral part of the professional military knowledge, expects to further streamline and expedite Army’s fast changing post-war national development involvements and roles on par with international standards in the field of Logistics.
