  • Budding Journalists from Colombo College Meet Jaffna Commander


    A group of students undergoing training at Colombo’s College of Journalism met Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe at the Civil Affairs and Public Relations Office Tuesday (27) morning. Sixty students including two from Maldives and ten instructors, headed by its Director Ms. Anuradha Herath arrived in Jaffna on Monday (26) on a three-day study tour as a part of their one-year training course.
     
  • Army Troops Prepare Three Children's Parks in School Compounds


    Three new children’s parks for use of Tamil school students in three separate schools in the Vavuniya district under 611 Brigade Headquarters were opened on Tuesday (27). Sponsored by Alliance Development Trust, Army troops did the ground work and set up those children’s parks inside Vavuniya Tharanikulam Ganesh Maha Vidyalaya, Vavuniya Kodandanochchikulam Tamil Junior School and Vavuniya Palamoddai Tamil Junior School.
     
  • Army Organizes Educational Tour for Sinhala & Tamil Students


    Erasing thirty years of bitter memories and fostering better relations, a group of one hundred children, fifty from Ichchalanpaththu Divisional Secretariat and the rest from Mavilaru area were taken on an educational trip to Colombo by 222 Brigade Headquarters in Jayanthigama, Kantale. The group, comprised of Sinhala and Tamil students visited Parliament, Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation, Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation, Vihara Maha Devi Park, National Museum and Colombo Ananda Vidyalaya.

    The curtain came down on the Army Para Games-2011 Thursday (29) evening at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, amidst a new wave of enthusiasm among disable Army War Heroes who for two days showcased their unbeatable sport skills. Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army showing a keen interest in the final closing ceremony arrived at the venue as Chief Guest on the invitation of the Chairman of the Army Para Sports Committee Major General A.P.De Z Abeysekara. More than 1000 War Heroes, who sacrificed their legs and limbs in the fight against LTTE terrorism  used.....
  • Tournament Championship Goes to 1 Field Engineer Regiment

    Inter-Regiment Athletic Tournament of Engineer Corps of the Army ended recently at Diyagama Mahinda Rajapaksa Stadium, awarding the overall championship trophy to the 1 Field Engineers Regiment. The tournament, intending to promote athletic skills among all Army personnel serving Engineer Regiments, continued for two days with the participation of more than 200 athletes.

  • War Hero Children Receive Schols

     
    Forty children of War Heroes were granted scholarships to support their education at the Defence Ministry auditorium yesterday in appreciation of the great service rendered by their fathers to guarantee the unity and sovereignty of the motherland. The ceremony to grant scholarships under the Ranaviru Doo Daru Scholarship Programme was held under the patronage of Defence Ministry Secretary Gotabhaya Rajapaksa.

    The Seva Vanitha Army Branch (SVAB), tirelessly engaged in construction of houses for disable War Heroes with the support of donors and Regimental Seva Vanitha Units fulfilled one more project by building a new house to a disable Gemunu Watch (GW) War Hero in Aluthwala, Pahalawela, Ambalangoda.

  • Commander Interacts with Inmates at 'Abimansala'

     
    As the second leg of the day’s Flag Blessing ceremony at Anuradhapura, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Commander of the Army took time off and visited the newly-opened ‘Abimansala’, the wellness resort for dependent War Heroes and inquired about their well-being.
