    NORTH & EAST: ARMY troops on Tuesday (28) recovered thirteen anti personnel mines,  six T-56 weapons, nineteen T-56 magazines, six I-com sets, fifteen thousand one hundred and eighty-one rounds of T-56 ammunition,    two claymore mines, one container with a stock of 12.7 mm ammunition, two hundred and seventy-five 12.7 mm ammunition, twelve pistol ammunition,  four thousand and one hundred rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, one T-81 weapon, ten 60 mm mortar bombs, Rs. 4300/= in cash, four cans of kerosene.....

  • Eastern Liberation, Birth of a New Era -“ Three Years After 'Mavil Aru'

    THE waters of the Mavil Aru flow gently through Kallar feeding thousands of acres of paddy lands and quenching the thirst of thousands of people, today. Until July 21 of 2006, Mavil Aru was just another source of water to feed the East. But now it goes to the history as the place where the foundation to end the Asia's longest terrorist battle, was laid. It all began with the LTTE's terror that shut down the sluice gates of the Mavil Aru on July 21 depriving the water to over 15,000 people - Sinhalese, Tamils and Muslims. They were denied of water for drinking and also cultivating over 30,000 acres of paddy and other crops.

The new website envisage keeping its users constantly engaged with news and views of SLAF, other Air Forces of the world and developments in the aviation industry and the Defence Sector in Sri Lanka and globally.

    NORTH & EAST: ARMY troops on Wednesday (29) recovered one micro pistol, two T-56 weapons , one FNC weapon, one 120 mm mortar bomb, eighteen 60 mm mortar bombs, one booby trap made using an  81 mm mortar bomb, four hundred rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, three Rocket Propelled Grenades (RPG), a stock of T-56 and T-81 spares, thirty-two T-56 magazines, eighty-five rounds of 12.7 mm ammunition, one 9 mm pistol magazine, one radio set, two hand mikes, 500 g of C-4 explosives, one Global Positioning System (GPS), one battery charger, nine shotgun cartridges, eight MPMG tripods, ......

  • National Programme to Reintegrate Ex-combatants Into Civilian Life

    FOLLOWING a series of intensive and wide-ranging discussions with diverse stakeholders, the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights has developed a National Framework Proposal to reintegrate ex-combatants into civilian life.The National Framework Proposal on the Reintegration of Ex-combatants into Civilian Life in Sri Lanka will be presented today for validation at a workshop convened by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Human Rights, a ministry release said yesterday.

  • Combating Threat of Terrorism: Lanka Perfect Example - Bahrain PM

    BAHRAIN Prime Minister Shaikh Khalifa Bin Salman Al-Khalifa yesterday commended the manner in which Sri Lanka acted to defeat terrorism and said this is a perfect example to other countries which faced with the threat of terrorism. He said the Sri Lankan Government could achieve this significant victory due to the firm determination and bold moves taken by President Mahinda Rajapaksa to eradicate terrorism. Bahrain Premier made these remarks when he called on President Mahinda Rajapaksa at Presidential Secretariat yesterday.

  • Jaffna Curfew Slashed by One Hour

    JAFFNA: IN view of the ongoing historic festival at NALLUR Hindu Kovil and marked improvement of security concerns in the peninsula, the Army has relaxed prevalent curfew hours by one more hour effective from today (30). The curfew hours will accordingly come into effect only between 12.00 p.m. (midnight) and 4.00 a.m. All other arrangements including transport have been adjusted to suit the new relaxation.   

  • Second Consignment Bought from Soldiers' Salaries Distributed Among the Displaced

    A CONSIGNMENT of essentials, bought with one-day salary donation of the soldiers for distribution among displaced civilians in Relief Camps was given away to children and pregnant women, housed in Jaffna Relief Camps during a simple ceremony organized on the instructions of Major General G P R De Silva, Commander Security Forces, Jaffna. All Army personnel following a directive from Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya donated their one-day salary for purchase of essentials to displaced people in Wanni and Jaffna.

    NORTH: ARMY troops on Thursday (30) recovered two  anti personnel mines,  one T-81 weapon, one hundred and thirty-two electric detonators, sixty 60 mm mortar bombs, twenty 60 mm mortar cartridges, nine 60 mm mortar bomb fuses, four claymore mines, two thousand one hundred and twenty four rounds of Multi Purpose Machine Gun (MPMG) ammunition, ten Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) charges, one gas bomb, twenty eight grenades, one MPMG barrel, twelve RPG rounds, eight 81 mm mortar bombs, eight thousand three hundred and eighty one rounds of T 56 ammunition, one 82 mm mortar bomb, one booby trap made using 60 mm mortar bomb,.....

  • Smooth Drive for Madhu Devotees

    THE Uthuru Vasanthaya task force in collaboration with the security forces and police has made elaborate arrangements to provide all facilities needed to cater to the pilgrims visiting the Madhu shrine to attend the annual feast, Administrator of the Madhu church Rev. Fr. Desmond Kulas said. Rev. Fr. Kulas said over 400,000 devotees are expected to attend the feast.He said LTTE terrorists had erected bunkers and placed land mines in the church compound when the area was under their clutches during the conflict."Now all obstacles have been cleared, roads rehabilitated and the church well spruced up to ensure a grand and peaceful feast this year.
