Troops of the 23 Infantry Division organized a donation programme to provide essential school accessories for 35 needy students at Monarathanna Primary School in Welikanda on 22 February 2024. Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, Security Forces - East, graced the event as the chief guest.
During the program, students received set of school accessories including exercise books, pens, lunch boxes, water bottles, pencils, sharpeners, erasers and crayons. Additionally, essential sports kits and school stationary items were also donated to school, while each student's family receiving nutritional packs.
Further, troops also repaired the school's main hall roof and renovated the children's park. The day concluded with a lunch for all students and their family members.
This initiative was made possible through financial contribution made by Seylan Bank employees and several philanthropists in Colombo.
Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Deputy Director of Education (Planning) of Dimbulagala Education Zone, Mr P.G.S Ajith Kumara and Deputy Director of Education (School) Mrs. T.A.D.Y.G Thewarapperuma, philanthropists, members of the school staff and parents participated in the occasion.
