55 Infantry Division conducted a cultural event plus school items donation programme for 103 students on 04 February 2024 at ‘Nelum Piyasa’ theater, Iranamadu in line with the 76th National Independence Day celebrations as a goodwill gesture to maintain strong bond with the community in Kilinochchi District,
The event was executed under the guidance of the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, and General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division Major General R.K.N.C Jayawardena RSP ndc, supervised the event.
Maintaining the ambiences of the Independence, cultural events staged representing Sinhala, Tamil and Muslim cultures symbolizing the theme 'Let's Build a New Country’. Various dancing performers, including Sarauanapoikai Dancing Academy Poonakary, Thiriwalluwa Tamil School, Sri Lanka Army dancing group and Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment traditional dancing group coloured the event with their performances to the occasion.
The District Secretary, Mrs. R Ketheeswaran, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. The clergies of Buddhist, Hindu, Christian and government officials including Divisional Secretaries of Kandaveli, Karachchi and the Police were also presented in the cultural event.
Further, Deputy General Officer Commanding, Brigadier R.P.A.R.P Rajapaksa RSP, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a large crowd of residents in the area were also witnessed the colourful event.
