The Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force (SLAVF) successfully hosted its annual 'Independence Volleyball Championship - 2024' on 31 January 2024 at the Rendezvous Grounds, guided by Major General M.K. Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commandant of SLAVF.
Civil sports clubs joined SLAVF teams in the two-day tournament, fostering a diverse and competitive atmosphere. Following thrilling matches, the sports club from Kaduwela, Bomiriya, emerged victorious by defeating the Samagitharu Sports Club from Kadugoda in the final, securing the championship title.
The closing ceremony featured the winners, runners-up, and all participating players receiving their well-deserved rewards. The chief guest presented trophies, cash awards and certificates of participation, recognizing their dedication and contribution to the tournament's success.
Notably, Mrs. Pavithra Gamage, Assistant Divisional Secretary, Seethawaka Divisional Secretariat, Dr. R.P Gonalgoda, Divisional Medical Officer, Divisional Hospital, Kosgama, Mr. Mangala Karathota, Royal Fernwood Porcelain Ltd and Mr. G.H.A Isuranka, Assistant Superintendent, Salawa Estate, attended the event as guests of honour.
