Refurbishing Condemned Vehicles and Equipment for Army Reuse

Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni initiated a crucial program to refurbish condemned vehicles and equipment employed in the Army, rendering them suitable for reuse. This endeavor was carried out under the guidance of Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, the Commander of Security Forces - Wanni.

The implementation of the project was entrusted to the collaborative efforts of 5 Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers (5 SLEME), 2 Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps, and 2 Engineer Service Regiment troops. These units operated under the supervision of the Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - North Central, and their respective Commanding Officers.

In the initial phase of the project, 20 bicycles, 2 motorbikes, 20 vehicles (comprising tractors, light vehicles, ambulances and heavy vehicles), 440 LED light bulbs, 25 gas stoves, 1000 ballistic helmets and over 50 office chairs were refurbished and subsequently handed over to the troops at their respective locations on 05 January 2024.

Beyond the scope of the ongoing project, 5 SLEME innovatively developed coconut shell stoves using condemned gas tanks from air conditioners and discarded barrels. These eco-friendly stoves are set for utilization in Army camps in the near future.
