In response to the rising water level in the Mahaweli River in the Suriyapura GN Division, the troops of 5 (V) Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA), under the direction of Security Force Headquarters - East, strategically placed sandbags spanning 4.7km along the Mahaweli River.
This collaborative effort involved over 35 Army personnel and troops from the Civil Security Department. It was overseen by the General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, and the Brigade Commander, 222 Infantry Brigade.
