The foundation stone laying ceremony for the construction of the newly proposed two-story building, 'Lama Piyasa,' at Karapitiya Teaching Hospital took place on (Thursday) 04 January. Major General W.H.K.S Peiris RWP RSP VSV USP ndu, Chief of Staff, graced the ceremony as the chief guest.
The Roshan Mahanama Trust coordinated the financial contribution for the construction of this project. In response to the hospital authority's request, Major General Kumudu Perera (Rtd) RWP RSP VSV USP ndu communicated the necessity to the Commander of the Army, proposing the engagement of Army troops in the construction endeavor. Accordingly, with the blessing of Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army the construction works to be carried out by troops of 12 Engineer Service Regiment (ESR).
The General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Officials of the Roshan Mahanama Trust and Officials of the hospital participated in the occasion.
