New Commander Security Forces-West Assumes Duties

Major General S.W.M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc assumed office as the new Commander, Security Forces-West on 29 December 2023 amid military formalities, inclusive of a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour soon after his arrival at the premises.

After the formal military honours, Major General S.W.M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc took over duties amidst religious observances and placed his signature in an official document to signify the acceptance of his new office. Thereafter, the new West Commander planted a sapling to mark the assumption of duties in the compound and sat for a group photograph. Afterwards, the new West Commander shared refreshments with All Ranks.

After the formalities, Major General S.W.M Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP ndc psc, addressed the troops, emphasizing the significance of discipline and its integral role in achieving success. He shared his vision for the command and outlined his goals, inspiring the troops to work towards common objectives.

Afterwards, comprehensive briefings were presented by the General Officer Commanding of the 61 & 14 Infantry Divisions respectively at the SFHQ-West conference hall.

The General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division, the General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division, the deputy General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division,Brigade Commanders, Brigadier General staff, Brigadier Admin & Quartering, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers and Other Ranks of the Security Forces Headquarters (West) participated in the day’s ceremony.

In addition to holding the appointment of Military Secretary of the AHQ, Major General S.W.M. Fernando WWV RWP RSP VSV USP, ndc psc also holds the appointment as Commander, Security Forces-West.
