One more Tamil woman soldier serving the 2 (V) Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps (SLAWC) at the Security Force HQ - Mullaittivu residing in Mullivaikkal area was the lucky recipient of a new house, built by 682 Infantry Brigade troops of the 68 Infantry Division, together with 6 Sri Lanka National Guard and Garrison Engineers of the 68 Infantry Division.
Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu, Major General S. Kasturimudali RSP ndu psc, General Officer Commanding, 68 Infantry Division and the 682 Infantry Brigade Commander provided the necessary guidance to build the house.
The keys of the newly-constructed house were handed over to the recipient, Private P Keshiya in a formal warming ceremony on 25 December 2023. Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaittivu graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, together with Major General S. Kasturimudali RSP ndu psc, General Officer Commanding, 68 Infantry Division and Ms Sharmy Sivaswamy, Assistant Divisional Secretary for Divisional Secretariat - Maritimepattu.
Local donors and generosity of combined troops resulted in the erection of the new house with no cost to the beneficiary.
The poverty-stricken family in addition was gifted furniture and other essential items for the home along with a stock of dry rations to the value of Rs. 16,000/= during the inaugural warming ceremony.
Brigade Commanders of 593 and 681 Infantry Brigades, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, civil dignitaries in Puthukkudiyirippu area, a crowd of relatives and villagers were present during the warming event.
