Students at both Sinhapura Kanishta Vidyalaya and Susirigama Primary School in Welikanda extended a hearty welcome to the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 23 Infantry Division, Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc when he arrived at their schools on Tuesday (12 Dec) to gift educational accessories and books to 323 students of both schools for the year 2024.
During two separate events, 190 students in Sinhapura Kanishta Vidyalaya and 133 students in Susirigama Primary School received those aid packs, patronized by a group of well-wishers in Colombo area at the request of the General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division.
In addition, special equipment packs, inclusive of mugs, cutlery, furniture, cups, bulbs and stationery were also donated to both schools by Major General K.V.N.P Premaratne RSP USP psc. Cultural dances and entertaining features performed by both schools while the distribution was on added glamour and colour to the event. After the events, the GOC as the chief guest for the occasion took time off to share a few thoughts with the principals, teachers and beneficiaries in order to learn more about their educational needs and other concerns.
The events were organized by 9 Sri Lanka Artillery Regiment troops under the supervision and guidance of Colonel A.K.C.S de Silva RSP, Brigade Commander, 233 Infantry Brigade in consultation with the General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division and the Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG.
The Commander, 233 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and state officials took part in the day’s event.
