Troops of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) HQ at Dambulla promptly attended to the threatened splits on the Dambuluhalmillewa tank bund in Palagala, Dambulla by placing sandbags on Sunday (10 December) after torrential rains filled the tank to its full capacity.
Rising water levels in the tank posed a threat to the tank bund after a minor crack was observed by villagers who were quick to seek Army assistance.
Troops in the MIR HQ, representatives of the provincial Irrigation Department and relevant local government authorities, together with civilians supported the prevention of further damage.
