Giving their share to the coconut cultivation drive in the Wanni region, 561 Infantry Brigade troops of the 56 Infantry Division under the Security Force Headquarters-Wanni distributed 2500 more coconut saplings during 27-28 November at Parasamkulam.
Families living in Puliyankulam area received these saplings free of charge thanks to the initiatives of the Army and the Coconut Cultivation Board which supplied saplings. Troops of 16 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and 10 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment coordinated the event.
Commander, Security Forces (Wanni) Major General W.P.A.D.W Nanayakkara RSP VSV USP ndu, General Office Commanding 56 Infantry Division, Major General H.G.P.M Kariyawasam RSP ndu psc IG and Commander 561 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier K.M.G Bandaranayaka USP psc provided necessary guidelines to the project.
Wanni troops are also engaged in the making of the 2nd 'Coconut Triangle' in the North after it was inaugurated in Mullaittivu. Earlier, hundreds of those saplings were distributed by Wanni troops.
