A delegation, headed by Mr. M. EL-Ghassim Wane, Special Representative of the Secretary-General (SRSG) and Head of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in Mali (MINUSMA) made an official visit to the Gao Super camp on Thursday (09) November 2023 in order to formally mark the culmination of Sector North operations in the MINUSMA.
During the visit, the SRSG spoke high of the commendable services of the troop-contributing countries in the Sector North and Sector East including the civilians and military leadership. Afterwards, he extended his sincere gratitude to all ‘Blue Helmet’ peacekeepers and civilian staff who served enormously to create a stable environment in both sectors, presently, renamed as ‘District East’.
Further, the visiting SRSG gave directions for the safe and peaceful culminating process of the MINUSMA.
In the meantime, the Sri Lankan Contingent and three more countries were awarded MINUSMA Force Commander’s Commendation certificates in appreciation of their valuable and professional services, rendered to the MINUSMA.
This event was organized by the 5th contingent of Sri Lanka Combat Convoy Company on the request of the Commander District East in MINUSMA.
