20 Gajaba Regiment (GR) troops in Pulmoddai quickly responded and attended to the clearing of the drainage system that has blocked the passage of flood waters on Tuesday (14 November) as swelling waters began causing life-threats and damages to the houses.
Accordingly, affected families were moved out and clearing work was carried out in Pulmoddai Ward No 1, Hairiya Road, and Pulmoddai Ward No 2, Sathkuwanagar on the guidelines given by the General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, Major General G.M.N. Perera RWP RSP USP ndu, and the Brigade Commander, 221 Infantry Brigade, Colonel A.K. Peiris RSP.
The close supervision of the Commanding Officer, 20 Gajaba Regiment (20 GR) enabled the troops to drain down the flood waters and bring normalcy. 3 Officers and 15 soldiers accomplished this task.
Further, necessary heavy equipment and several labourers were provided by Kuchchaweli Pradeshiya Sabhawa, along with a tipper truck and 4 tractors provided by civilians, resident in flood-affected area for removal of contaminated soil and stagnant water.
