Remains of Buried Family in Udawela, Horankaduru Recovered

The continuing overnight rescue operations of the 8 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops of the 611 Infantry Brigade of the 61 Infantry Division, conducted in search of the family buried alive in a lanslide that occurred in Udawela, Horankaduru area in Balangoda a few days ago recovered dead bodies of both parents and two daughters of the family on Tuesday (14) with the support of Disaster Management Center workers and civilians in the area.

Following adverse weather conditions, the house with its four occupants, including two children were buried in soil causing a lanslide at the location and continued efforts since Sunday (12) night did not succeed in finding the whereabouts of those occupants. Troops despite bad weather conditions continued their rescue operations until the remains of those occupants were traced.

However, sustained efforts of the 8 GW troops with others on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 61 Infantry Division, Major General R.A.J. N Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc during clearing operations recovered those dead occupants.
