A special ‘Bodi Pooja Pinkama’ commemorated the memory of fallen courageous War Heroes who made the supreme sacrifice and sustained permanent injuries in the Pooneryn attack before May 2009 at the 552 Infantry Brigade HQ in Pooneryn on Saturday (11 November).
During the Pooneryn attack on 11 November 1993, LTTE terrorists overran the camp and killed Sri Lanka Army War Heroes during a fierce fight.
The ‘Bodi Pooja’ religious observances transferred merits to fallen War Heroes and invoked blessings on those who sustained injuries in line of their duties.
The ceremony organized under the guidance of Major General S.R.K Hettiarachchi RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces Jaffna, and Major General R.K.N.C Jayawardena RSP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division was made a reality by the Commander 552 Infantry Brigade. The offer of ‘Atapirikara’ to the monk and blessings were invoked on the Army its troops.
The ceremony, overseen by the Commander 552 Infantry Brigade, concluded with the presentation of Atapirikara and alms to the monk who conducted the Dhamma sermon, marking a solemn tribute to the fallen and injured soldiers who dedicated themselves to the defence of the motherland.
