The Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) Regiment celebrated its 72nd anniversary amidst religious observances and military formalities during 7-10 November at the SLE Regimental HQ in Panagoda.
Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander, Security Forces - Mullaitivu and Colonel Commandant of the SLE attended the anniversary arrangements as the Chief Guest.
The commemoration began with a tribute to the War Heroes at the War Heroes’ monument inside the SLE Regimental HQ on Tuesday (7) where Colonel Commandant of SLE, Senior Officers and Officers laid floral tributes in memory of fallen Sappers.
As dusk well, an all-night ‘Pirith’ chanting ceremony got underway before an almsgiving to members of the Maha Sangha took place on the following day.
On the same day, troops arranged a lunch and an entertaining musical event for 22 residents residing at the ‘Home of Tri-Service Veterans’ in Katana. According to military formalities a colourful Guard of Honour was presented to the Colonel Commandant of SLE on Thursday (9) at the Regimental HQ.
An Officers’ get-together at Sappers Leisure Bay at Mattegoda and another Officers’ and Senior Non-Commissioned Officers’ get-together at the Regimental HQ culminated the series of anniversary events.
Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks of the SLE took part in those events.
