Troops of the Security Force Headquarters - Central (SFHQ-C) swiftly jumped into action and cleared a road patch that had been blocked by an earth mound along the Haputale - Colombo road near Beragala, Bathalegoda area on Monday (6 Nov).
Torrential rains on the previous day (5 Nov) posed a threat of landslides in the affected area and a team of Army riders immediately alerted the civilians living around before a large soil mound and boulders fell on the road during small hours on Monday (6 Nov).
Troops with the support of Road Development Authority personnel cleared the blockage at Beragala, Bathalegoda and restored vehicle movement along Colombo - Haputale main road.
Meanwhile, on the same day, troops provided their assistance to clear the road patch between Walgahawela and Boralanda along Colombo - Haputale main road.
In addition, troops also supported civilians by helping to remove fronds and tree branches that had fallen on their roofs in Boralanda area during 4 - 6 November.
Commander, SFHQ-C closely monitored all disaster relief operations and provided necessary directions to the rescue team.
