15 SLLI Troops Erect New Home for another Homeless Family with Thambalagamuwa Divisional Secretariat

15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (15 SLLI) troops of the 223 Infantry Brigade under the 22 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ– East (SFHQ-E) erected a new house for a needy family, responding to a request made by the Thambalagamuwa Divisional Secretariat and vested it in the family during a simple ceremony on Friday (03 Nov) at Thambalagamuwa.

The beneficiary, Mr Chitra Velayudham Lingeshwaram Sharma was living in a makeshift house with his disabled daughter and the family at Thambalagamuwa. The miserable plight of their house was brought to the notice of Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, SF-E by Mrs J Sripathy, Divisional Secretary of the Thambalagamuwa Divisional Secretariat.

According to guidelines given by the Commander, SF-E and the General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, troops took prompt action for constructing the new house for the family as the land, financial assistance of Rs. 1.35 million and materials were provided by the Thambalagamuwa Divisional Secretariat of the Trincomalee District Secretariat.

Lieutenant Colonel N.C Marasinghe, Commanding Officer and 15 SLLI troops effectively completed the project under the supervision of Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division and Commander, 223 Infantry Brigade.

The Commander, SF-E graced the house -warming ceremony as the Chief Guest and handed over the keys to the beneficiary after multi-religious observances got underway on the auspicious occasion. During the event, three cultural dances performed by the students of Mollipothana Sinhala School, Barathipuram Tamil School, and Thambalagamuwa Higma Muslim School added glamour and colour to the occasion.

Adding memories to the day, Commander, SF-E, together with the younger daughter of the family planted a sapling in the new house compound. Towards the end, Mrs. J Sripathy, Divisional Secretary specially expressed her gratitude to the troops for their hard work and technical skills. The day's agenda culminated with tea arrangement where all interacted with one another.

General Officer Commanding, 22 Infantry Division, Commander, 223 Infantry Brigade, Mr Chaminda Hettiarachchi, District Secretary of Trincomalee, Mrs J Sripathy, Divisional Secretary of Thambalagamuwa, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a crowd of locals and relatives took part in the house-warming ceremony.
