231 Infantry Brigade troops of the 23 Infantry Division under the Security Force HQ- East (SFHQ-East) organized a welfare programme to distribute dry ration packs among 75 pregnant women living in Aralaganwila area in Polonnaruwa on Thursday (02 Nov) at the Aralaganwila “Pratibha” auditorium.
Considering the nourishment requirement of pregnant women of low-income families, Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, SF-East provided the conceptual guidance to launch the programme.
Major G.S Ranasinghe, Commanding Officer, 12 Gemunu Watch arranged the project under the supervision of Major General K.V.N.P Premarathna RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division and Brigadier D.S Jayawardana RSP, Commander, 231 Infantry Brigade.
The cost of the project approximately at Rs.500,000.00 was provided by the famous cricketer Roshan Mahanama and Major General Kumudu Perera (Rtd), on the request of the Commander, SF-East.
Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne attended the event as the chief guest and gave away those gift packs. Cultural dances performed by students of Vilayaya Central College added glamour to the event. Moreover, pregnant women were given snack packs and tea during the event.
General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division, Commander, 231 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, Mr G.H.P Kumara, Principal of Vilayaya Central College, Aralaganwila and Mahaweli B Zone Block Manager were also present during the event.
