24 Infantry Division troops of the Security Force HQ - East enabled Kurukkal (priests) to hold the Kumbabisekam festival at Vilavadi Vinayakar Kovil in Ampara after absence of 4 years on Wednesday (1 November).
The Vilavadi Vinayakar Kovil, remained almost abandoned for 4 years since the premises and the Kovil could not be maintained.
Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 24 Infantry Division on being informed of the need to renovate the location, the 24 Infantry Division troops volunteered to provide their assistance to conduct the first festival in the premises.
The GOC, 24 Infantry Division, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a crowd of local devotees also took part in the inaugural ceremony.
