Considering the nunutritional requirements of pregnant mothers of low-income families, the 243 Infantry Brigade of the 24 Infantry Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ - E) distributed nutritional dry ration packs among 100 pregnant Tamil women residing in Kokkadichcholai area in Batticaloa on Friday (20 Oct) after inviting them to the Kokkadichcholai cultural centre.
The event was organized under the supervision of Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding, 24 Infantry Division under the close supervision of Brigadier A.M.C Kumarasinghe, Commander of 243 Infantry Brigade with the support of Major D.M.N Pathmasiri, Commanding Officer of 11 (V) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment and his troops.
Approximately, Rs.750, 000 worth packs of nutrients sponsored by Rev. Ebenazer Joseph, Bishop of the Methodist Church of Sri Lanka, Former Secretary General National Christian Council and Secretary General of Interfaith Coalition for Peace on the request of the Commander, Security Forces - East offered the sponsorship.
Further, cultural dances performed by Ambalanthurei Kaleimagal Vidyalaya and Arasadithiv Vigneshwaram Vidyalaya students during the distribution added colour and entertainment. Moreover, all pregnant beneficiaries were provided snacks and lunch.
Major General M.K.U.P Gunaratne RSP ndu psc IG, Commander, Security Forces - East, graced the occasion as the chief guest. Rev. Ebenazer Joseph, Major General W Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, General Officer Commanding of 24 Infantry Division, Brigadier A.M.C Kumarasinghe, Commander of 243 Infantry Brigade, Senior Officers, Government Officials of Kokkadichcholai also participated in the event.
