The second anniversary of the 1 Corps HQ was marked with a series of events on 17 October 2023 following guidelines given by Major General S.B Amunugama RWP RSP ndu Commander - 1 Corps.
In conjunction with this anniversary, a series of programmes were carried out beginning 04 October 2023. As a first segment of the anniversary celebration, 1 Corps troops offered 'Kiri Ahara' to Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya and Ruwanweli Seya and joined a Bodhi Pooja with the participation of the 1 Corps Commander where blessings were invoked on the 1 Corps flag and all the troops.
Next were religious ceremonies conducted at Tirumurukandi Pullair Temple, Jumma Mosque, Kilinochchi and St. Teresa's Church, Kilinochchi. A Bodhi Pooja was also held at the temple premises of the 1 Corps in addition. Further, a special lunch was offered to adults at the S.K. Elders' Home in Malayalakulam.
Moreover, an inter-division cricket tournament was held and prizes and trophies were awarded to the winners as part of the anniversary programme.
On the anniversary day (17 October), in accordance with the military traditions Major General S.B Amunugama RWP RSP ndu Commander - 1 Corps was honoured in a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour presented by troops of 1 Corps,
As a customary feature, the Commander - 1 Corps addressed the troops and emphasized, "Training is the best welfare of the soldiers." Further, he stated that various training programmes have been implemented under the 1 Corps to meet this end and appreciated the services being rendered by All Ranks of the 1 Corps for the organization and the country. To mark the second anniversary, a sandal sapling was also planted in the headquarters premises, followed by a group photo. After All Rank lunch at the Nelum Piyasa multi-purpose hall, the second anniversary celebration culminated.
Major General H.D.W.K.N Eriyagama RWP RSP, General Officer Commanding of 58 Division, Senior Staff Officers of 1 Corps, Brigade Commanders, Commanding Officers, Staff Officers, Officers and All Ranks participated in the anniversary features.
