9 Battalion Vijayabahu’ Infantry Regiment troops (VIR) troops under the 22 Infantry Division carried out a special community-oriented programme after inviting 32 families to the 'Sahana Sevana' premises of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment camp in Kallar on Friday (06 October 2023).
Financial assistance provided by the philanthropist, Mr. Prasad Lokubalasuriya, Chief organizer of the ‘Suva Daru 2023 project', Old Boys' Association of Colombo Royal College and the 'Mithuru Kela’ gathering of alumni of the University of Sri Jayawardenapura-Gangodawila, enabled the donation of those dry ration packs, inclusive of rice, dhal, flour, noodles, spices, cereals, sugar, etc to those low-income group families.
Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commander, 22 Infantry Division and Brigadier N.S.S Dias RSP, Brigade Commander of 222 Infantry Brigade provided guidance and supervision to the project.
A group of the Maha Sangha attending the brief distribution ceremony were also provided alms by the troops before a delicious lunch was served to those recipients of relief packs. Residents in the area also added colour to the event by showcasing their artistic talents.
Brigadier K.K.S Perakum RWP RSP, Deputy General Officer Commanding of the 22 Infantry Division, Brigadier N.S.S Dias RSP, Brigade Commander of the 222 Infantry Brigade, Mr. Prasad Lokubalasooriya, Senior Officers, Officers of the 222 Infantry Brigade and 9 Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment were present at the location.
