Hon. Premitha Bandara Tennakoon, State Minister of Defence, together with Hon Speaker and a few Parliamentarians during an unscheduled visit to flood-affected areas in Matara on Sunday (08 Oct) met affected civilians and appreciated the Army’s tiring humanitarian flood relief operations.
Soon after he arrived at 3 Gemunu Watch (3 GW) camp premises in Matara, Major General R.A.J.N Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, General Officer Commanding of 61 Infantry Division delivered a comprehensive briefing on the current situation as regards floods in the area. The State Minister of Defence afterwards met the District Secretary for Matara and received further updates.
Afterwards, he visited the Army-maintained temporary kitchen at the Malimbada Divisional Secretariat premises after inquiring about the well-being of displaced persons temporarily sheltered inside the Matara Central College.
In addition, he inspected the Athtudawa bund area which has been fortified by Army troops and highly appreciated the hard work of the troops.
