Novel Question-Answer Competition Gives Cash Prizes to Other Ranks

A novel question-answer competition introduced to Other Ranks by the Adjutant General Branch got underway at the Army HQ on Thursday (5) with the objective of enhancing military and general knowledge levels of ordinary soldiers on a suggestion, made by Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army.

The Adjutant General of the Army as the Chief Guest witnessed the sessions. Accordingly, 30 Army personnel representing Other Ranks were selected out of 125 candidates for the very first round of this question-answer session through a tough written examination, based on their military and general knowledge.

Out of 30 selected candidates, 21 Army personnel representing several regiments were selected for the 1st round of the question and answer session. Out of those 21, another 10 were selected for the last round. This special event was organized as a pilot project by the Directorate of Personnel Administration of the Army.

Questions were raised areas covering military knowledge, current affairs, knowledge about weapons, geographical locations in Sri Lanka, History of Sri Lanka, Knowledge about Army Organizational Structure, Army Act, Dress Regulations, English Knowledge, Music, Vocabulary and several other fields related to the warfare.

The first 05 competitors who achieved first to fifth positions received cash as incentives to the value of Rs. 50,000/- for the 1st Place, Rs. 40,000/- for the 2nd Place, Rs. 30,000/- for the 3rd place, Rs. 25,000/- for the 4th Place and Rs. 20,000/- for the 5th place of this competition. In addition, they will receive special commemorative coins and appreciation certificates for their achievements from Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, the Commander of Army during dinner for all ranks on 09 October 2023.

This special event was held under the close supervision of Brigadier K.A.U Kodituwakku RSP USP psc IG, the Director of the Directorate of Personnel Administration, Brigadier B.G.S Fernando USP Hdmc psc, the Center Commandant of Sri Lanka Artillery, Brigadier C.S Thibbotuge, the Center Commandant of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment, Brigadier W.A.V.S Wanasekera RSP USP, the Center Commandant of the Sri Lanka Medical Corps, Brigadier M.A.D.J.D Gunatilaka RSP USP, the Center Commandant of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment, Colonel L.H.C.R Siriwardena RSP, the Center Commandant of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry and Colonel J.K.N.S Jayasinghe KSP, the Center Commandant of the Sri Lanka Pioneer Corps.
