The Sri Lanka Army Men’s Judo team clinched the male Championship in the National Novices Judo Championship, organized by the Sri Lanka Judo Association with the sponsorship given by the Olympic Judo Committee during August 27 - 29 at the National Sports Complex, Polonnaruwa.
308 players representing 35 Judo associations vied in the tournament. During the championship, Army Men’s team bagged 06 Gold, 06 Silver and 05 Bronze medals with 53 points and secured the Men’s championship pushing the rival, Wickramabahu Sports Club to be the runner-up having achieved 02 Gold, 02 Silver and 01 Bronze medal with 17 points.
At the same time, the Women's team of Sri Lanka Air Force crowned champions in the women’s category obtaining 05 Gold, 02 Silver and 03 Bronze medals with 34 points and the Rajarata Sports Club secured the runner-up slot in the women’s category with 02 Silver medals in 06 points.
Wing Commander Manjula Weerasinghe, Chairman of Sri Lanka Judo Association graced the occasion as the Chief Guest. Officers and a large crowd of Other Ranks witnessed the championship.
