Major General R.A.J.N. Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc, assumed duties as the new General Officer Commanding (GOC) of the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Force HQ- West amid religious blessings at the 61 Infantry Division Headquarters in Boossa, Galle on Wednesday (16 Aug).
The newly-appointed General Officer Commanding was warmly welcomed by Staff Officers and saluted in a Guard Turnout, presented by 2 (V) Gemunu Watch troops as he entered the compound.
In his new office, the new General Officer Commanding was invited to leave his signature in an official document to mark the assumption of his duties amidst 'Seth Pirith' chanting.
In line with military formalities, the new GOC planted a sapling, prior to the formal troop address, delivered to all Officers and Other Ranks where he expressed his vision for the Division in the future.
Brigade Commanders, Staff Officers of the 61 Division, Commanding Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were present during the day's event.
