Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu, Commander of the Army this afternoon (18) invited Major General J.M.R.N.K Jayamanna RWP, General Officer Commanding of 14 Infantry Division and his family members to the Commander’s Office on the eve of his retirement from the service after 34 years of service.
During the interactions, the Army Chief appreciated the services of the retiring Senior Officer and recalled memories in the battlefield and also in the post-war scenario. The Commander of the Army also inquired about his future plans and wished him good luck with his future endeavors.
While sharing a few pleasantries with the retiring Major General J.M.R.N.K Jayamanna RWP, the Army Chief did not forget to mince words with his wife and two children who were present at the office. He also did not fail to mention the support that the retiree’s family members have given the outgoing officer in the performance of his challenging roles.
Major General J.M.R.N.K Jayamanna RWP also in turn thanked the Commander of the Army for his wishes and guidance while mentioning the encouragement he received during his tenure of service in the organization.
Towards the end of the interactions, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage awarded a special memento to the outgoing retiree as a symbol of appreciation and commendation along with a special gift to the family.
Here follows a brief profile of the retiring Senior Officer;
Major General J.M.R.N.K Jayamanna RWP was enlisted in the Regular Force of the Sri Lanka Army as an Officer Cadet on 14 July 1989. Upon successful completion of military training at the Sri Lanka Military Academy, Diyatalawa, he was commissioned in the rank of Second Lieutenant and posted to the Gemunu Watch on 19 January 1991. After being steadily elevated to subsequent ranks in the course of the span of service in the Army, he was promoted to the rank of Major General on 10 October 2022.
Major General J.M.R.N.K Jayamanna RWP, being a dedicated infantryman has been decorated with the Rana Wickrama Padakkama (RWP) for his excellent display of bravery in the face of the enemy.
He has been holding the Office of the General Officer Commanding, 14 Infantry Division at the time of his retirement. He also held the appointments of Platoon Commander of 4 GW, Motor Transport Officer of 4 GW, Officer Commanding of 4 GW, General Staff Officer III of 524 Infantry Brigade, Staff Officer 2 (Finance) of Directorate of Personnel Administration, Brigade Major of 551 Infantry Brigade, Chief Instructor of Institute of Peace Support Operations Training - Sri Lanka, Officer Commanding of Sri Lanka Battalion- United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti (MINUSTAH),Commanding Officer of 9 GW, Chief Instructor of Joint Services Language Training Institute, Colonel (General Staff) of 68 Infantry Division, Deputy Centre Commandant of Regimental Centre Sri Lanka National Guard, Officiating Commander of 232 Infantry Brigade, Deputy Commandant of Infantry Training Centre, Centre Commandant of Regimental Centre the Gemunu Watch, District Coordinating Officer of Ratnapura District and Commandant of Combat Training School.
He has followed many local and foreign courses during his military career, such as Unit Administration Course, United Nations Staff Officers’ Course, Motor Transport Officers’ Course, IHL and HR Basic Instructor Course, Infantry Young Officers’ Course – Pakistan, Junior Command Course – India, United Nations Peacekeeping Operations Instructor Course - Mongolia and Battalion Commanders’ Course - China.
