The Mechanized Infantry Regiment (MIR) Regimental Centre at Dambuluhalmillawewa in a formal ceremony on Saturday (12 August) bade farewell to the retiring Major General H.M.U Herath RWP RSP VSV USP Hdmc psc who held the office of Colonel of the Regiment, MIR.
The outgoing Colonel of the Regiment upon his arrival was warmly welcomed by Brigadier W.M.S.C.K Wanasinghe RSP USP, Brigadier General Staff of the Security Force Headquarters-Central and Brigadier A. M. A. Abeysinghe RWP RSP USP psc, MIR Centre Commandant, together with Regimental Council Members.
A Guard Turnout at the entrance greeted him in accordance with military traditions before he paid tribute to the memory of fallen War Heroes at the monument. The ceremony reached its climax with the presentation of the military Guard of Honour by MIR troops of the Regimental HQ.
Afterwards, Major General H.M.U Herath RWP RSP VSV USP Hdmc psc joined All Ranks for refreshments and interacted with them. He also left complimentary remarks in the Visitors’ Book before he left the premises amid a street-line salute. He served as the 15th Colonel of the Regiment of the Mechanized Infantry Regiment.
