18 Battalion Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (18 VIR) troops with the objective of encouraging cultivation of cash crops distributed hundreds of mango, orange, pomegranate and rose apple saplings among low-income group families, resident in Kalmunai area on Saturday (12 August) after inviting them to the 18 VIR camp premises.
More than 50 civilians received those saplings during the arrangement.
The Commanding Officer, 18 VIR, Officers and Other Ranks joined the occasion.
