The Sri Lanka Army Handball (Men’s) team, beating Sri Lanka Navy Handball team carried away the championship trophy in the Sri Lanka National Handball Championship - 2023, held at Puttalam Public ground during 11 - 14 August.
21 island-wide handball (Male) players under four categories vied in the tournament and the final tussle got underway between Army and Navy teams where the scoreboard stood at 36 - 31 respectively as the match drew to a close.
Similarly, Sri Lanka Army players (Women) won the runners-up trophy after beating their rivals in the Sri Lanka Air Force. The score stood at 21 - 25 respectively.
Hon. State Minister of Sports and Youth Affairs witnessed the final matches as the Chief Guest. Major General G.M.N Perera RWP RSP USP ndc, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Handball Committee also participated in the awarding ceremony on Monday (14 August).
Corporal D.G.R Wimalarathna of Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps, Lance Corporal R.D.A.R Karunarathna of Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment and Private K.D Pathmakumara of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps were awarded trophies as Best Player of the tournament, Best Goalkeeper and Best players of the final match in succession.
