Military formalities, inclusive of a Guard Turnout and a Guard of Honour at the Security Force Headquarters-East (SFHQ-E) on Friday (11 August) saluted the outgoing East Commander, Major General U.D Wijesekera RWP RSP USP rcds psc in accordance with military traditions.
At his office, the East Commander, expected to assume a new office shortly signed documents, pertaining to his relinquishment of office before he was invited to pose for several group photographs at the SFHQ-E, compound as a symbol of memory.
Afterwards, the outgoing East Commander addressed the troops and thanked All Ranks for their generous assistance and support extended to him during his brief tenure. Mementos were also awarded to him by Senior Officers of the SFHQ-E, 22 Infantry Division and 24 Infantry Division as tokens of appreciation.
The same evening at the SFHQ-E Officers’ Mess, a customary farewell dinner was hosted in honour of the outgoing East Commander by Officers of all under command Infantry Divisions, Brigades and units.
He also days before his departure met the troops in the nearby 23 Infantry Division at Punani and expressed his gratitude to All Ranks for the support.
