A contingent of Army personnel belonging to 8 Gemunu Watch of the 611 Infantry Brigade under the 61 Infantry Division of the Security Forces (West) responding to an SOS appeal on Saturday (22 July 2023) rushed to the general area of Kongahamankada in Kalthota Divisional Secretariat during morning hours and doused a bush fire that was fast spreading due to prevailing dry weather.
The Divisional Secretary of Kalthota has sought the assistance of the troops on being informed of the emergency.
Army personnel hurried to the scene and commenced work to bring the situation under control within two hours before it spread into adjacent areas.
Brigade Commander 611 Infantry Brigade and the Commanding Officer of 8 Gemunu Watch closely monitored the task as per directions of the Commander Security Forces-West.
